* Do I need to install a "hardware dongle" to use the plug-ins?

No.  Dongles cost money to manufacture, would irritate our customers, and they're not a very effective protection against piracy anyway.  To install your plug-ins, you only need to enter your activation code as described below.

* How do I install my plug-in codes?

When you purchase from us, you receive (by email) a message containing your activation code(s).  Simply type your code into the demo plug-in to permanently enable it.

  • First, open the plug-in in your audio program.  Close the initial message that appears by clicking on "No thanks let me use the plugin" (or on the DEMO EXPIRED button if your demo has run out).
  • Then, right-click anywhere on the plug-in and select the "Register..." menu option.
  • Finally, copy your name & code from our email into the registration window, then press OK.
  • Repeat the process for each plug-in as required.

If you see an error window saying "Sorry, those registration details are not valid", this may mean that you mis-typed the code shown in your license.  Try entering your name and code again, exactly as shown in your license.  There should be no spaces before or after the name & code.  You should include the "-" characters in the code.  You should not change the case of any letters in your name.

* I've lost my codes - how do I reinstall my plug-ins on a new computer?

Just contact us and we'll be happy to send you a copy of your original license.  If you have changed email address since you placed your order, we just need confirmation that you are the original purchaser - ideally your original ShareIt order number, but your postal address or phone number will do.

* Why don't the dynamics processor sidechains work in ACID?

The dB-D sidechain (used for ducking and synchronized gate effects between tracks) relies on the host program passing audio data around in relatively small buffers.  For most audio sequencers this is not a significant problem, and particularly if you have low-latency ASIO or WDM soundcard drivers, the sidechain can operate in near real time.

Unfortunately, Sonic Foundry's ACID program uses quite large internal buffers to support its timestretching & pitch shifting feature.  This means that the dB-D sidechain does not get fed audio data quickly enough, and you will in many cases hear an unavoidable delay in the ducking/gating effect.  You may get better results by lowering ACID's audio buffer size - however, unless you have a seriously powerful PC, you are likely to run into CPU load problems with ACID itself.

* Why do the plug-in VU meters update very slowly?

If the plug-in graphics appear to refresh very slowly in CoolEdit 2000, making real time monitoring difficult, you can improve the update speed by lowering the "Minimum Preview Buffer Size" to around 50ms (default is 500ms).
